Emma Tharp Named Youth Citizen of the Year

Posted

What do you think when you see someone who may be homeless? What do you do, what would you have done when you were only five years old? Those are hard questions and discussions for adults, a societal problem that can seem insurmountable, but one young Overton Countian is stepping up and trying to help the unhoused in the area.

Ms. Emma Tharp, a student at Allons Elementary, saw a couple of unhoused people going under a bridge and after praying for their safety and praying their needs were met. A beautiful sentiment in and of itself, but she did more.

With the help of her parents and other adults she started taking donations, coats, hoodies and blankets. Those items are then distributed to the people who need them. She is also creating blessing bags to distribute to those in need.
