Community Center Gets Security Cameras

Joe L. Evins Community Center will soon be under surveillance, thanks to a grant for the Election Commission. Bullseyes Security got the bid for the cameras. This will allow the footage to be stored offsite and will also be monitored by emergency dispatch. The commission voted to pass the motion. 

The commission also voted to appoint Garald Garrent to the Industrial Development Board. The also approved the following notaries at large: Mckensie Stover, Cassandra Smith, Patricia Reed. Molly Tallent, Sharlene S. Ball, Travis Staggs, Danielle Hughes, Sherry Maybury and Sharon Halliburton. 

The commission approved the School Quarterly report, which was previously approved by the Education Committee. 

They also approved the budget amendments for school, general purpose fund and federal projects fund which was previously approved by the Education Committee. 

The commission also approved the surplus items for the Highway Department including a New Holland TS100 Tractor with Side Boom Cutter and 2019 Legend Gooseneck Trailer. They also approved Election surplus items dated 9/19/2023. All were previously approved by the Highway and County Property Committee. 

 The Highway Department will add Copperhead Lane for emergency purposes only. This road will not be maintained by the county and will have no other used but for emergencies. The commission passed the resolution. 

The commission carried a resolution to oppose Cedar Recovery from a clinic in any area of Overton County. Cedar Recovery has already withdrawn their application of need, but Steven Barlow asked the commission to still vote on the resolution in case Cedar Recovery changes their mind in the future. 

The commission approved a resolution appointing/reappointing Judicial Commissioners. The commission also discussed an opening on the Judicial board that needs to be filled. 

Shannon Cantrell with the Chamber of Commerce announced to the board Overton County's Arts Council got a grant for an Arts Festival. Cantrell is hoping to have the festival in the Spring. 

Cantrell also announced Overton County has moved out of the "At Risk" category and now is in "Transitioning". This means Overton County's economy is getting stronger.
