L.B.J. & C. Head Start Policy Council Meeting

The monthly meeting of the L.B.J. & C. Head Start Policy Council has been scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 3 beginning at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held at the L.B.J. & C. Development Corporation, 1150 Chocolate Drive, Cookeville.

L.B.J. & C. Board of Directors Meeting

The L.B.J. & C. Development Corporation Board of Director’s will hold their bi-monthly meeting Tuesday, Aug. 10 at the L.B.J. & C. Development Corporation, 1150 Chocolate Drive, Cookeville, beginning at 6 p.m.

Foster Grandparent Program Looking For Volunteers

The Foster Grandparent Program is looking for classroom volunteers to help at the Livingston Head Start Center. You must be at least 55 years of age, love children, have 15 to 40 hours a week to help, pass a physical and a fingerprint background check. Your income must be below 200% of the poverty level. Volunteers help the children with puzzles, peer interaction, coloring, reading, encouragement, etc. You are provided two meals a day at no charge to you. You also get a tax-exempt stipend of $3.00 an hour (cannot be counted as income for any government program., help with transportation, training, sick leave, holiday pay, and annual leave. We also pay for the background check.

Relative Caregiver Program Support Group Meeting

Are you raising a relative child or need housing assistance? For more information on assistance and support, please contact Melissa Allison at the Upper Cumberland Development District toll-free at 1-877-275-8233. A support group meeting will be held for relatives that are caring for relative children during the month of July 2021. Please contact Melissa Allison at (931) 476-4127 if you are interested in attending this meeting. For housing assistance, while caring for minor child contact Myra Walker at 931-432-4111.

Narcotics Anonymous Meetings

Every Friday beginning at 7 p.m.; every Sunday at 5 p.m.; second Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. All held at the Overton County Library. The program is not sponsored by the library. For more information call (931) 303-2132.

UCHRA Commodity Distribution - Livingston

The Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency (UCHRA) will hold a commodities distribution for Overton County (Livingston) on Tuesday, Aug. 24 from 9 a.m. until noon at the Overton County Fairgrounds. Sign-up will be available at the distribution site. Volunteers are also needed during the event. Please call (931) 528-1127 to learn more about volunteering.

Overton County Schools Back to School Bash

It will be “drive through style” and will be held at each individual school on August 2, 2021, from 5:00-7:00. Each student will be able to drive through at perspective schools to receive school supplies and a registration packet.

Taking a STAND on the Square

On Wednesday, July 28, at 10 a.m., Overton County will be “Taking a STAND on the Square” in partnership with the TN Department of Health in recognition of Human Trafficking Awareness Week.  STAND is a club at Livingston Academy that combines LA’s SADD club, the OCADC, and the OCHD. STAND represents Students Taking a New Direction. The group works to bring awareness and support to the students about multiple topics like mental health, tobacco use, drugs and alcohol, and things like human trafficking.

Parkinson’s Support Group

The Parkinson’s Support Group meets Tuesday, August 3 at 10 a.m. at Caney Fork Baptist Church, 2404 Hwy 70 E, Cookeville. The speaker will be Dr. Casey White, director of Pharmacy at CRMC.

Overton County Historical Society Meeting

The Overton County Historical Society will meet Tuesday, August 3 at 5:30 p.m. at Millard Oakley Library meeting room. Elmo Garrett will present a program on growing up on Barnes Ridge and on the Cordell Hull home.

Livingston American Legion and Auxiliary Monthly Meeting

The Livingston American Legion and Auxiliary will hold their monthly meetings on Tuesday, August 3 at post headquarters located at 121 S. Church St. The Auxiliary meets at 5:30 p.m. and the Legion meeting begins at 6:00 p.m.
