The Overton County School Board will begin to take steps to address pay for teachers and support staff.
In Thursday’s work session following the body’s monthly meeting, board Vice Chairman Mike Gilpatrick brought up the county’s low standing in teacher pay.
“We are in the five lowest in Tennessee,” Gilpatrick said. ‘We can’t retain good teachers if we are in the five lowest paid systems in the state.”
Board member William Abston said he has already discussed the issue with some of the system’s administrator, including Direcor of Schools Dr. Donnie Holman and Budget Director Crystal Nelson.
