Diana Hummel

Diana Ruth Hummel, 73, of Anderson, Ind. passed away July 26 from Community Hospital in Anderson, Ind. A memorial service was held at the cemetery for family.

She was born on May 22, 1947 in Livingston. She worked in the cafeteria at Anderson Community Schools for many years, was a member of the Madison Park Church of God, enjoyed playing bingo and most of all, being with her family.

She was preceded in death by parents, Edith and Allard Smith; husband, Ronnie Carr; second husband, M B Hummel; sister, Doris Copeland and brother, Donald Smith.

She is survived by children, Tammy Schlabach, Julie Cook and Robert (Teresa) Carr; siblings, David Smith and Delta Smith; grandchildren, Dustin (Stefanie) Johnson, Jacy Cook, Jami (Justin) Kitchen, Joshua Lillard, Hailey Carr and Cheyanna Carr; several great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Brown Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Bobby “Balis”


Bobby “Balis” Cravens, 80, of Rickman passed away Aug. 1 from Standing Stone Care and Rehab. Funeral services were held Aug. 4 at the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Interment followed in the Holly Springs Cemetery. Bro. Bruce Mullinix officiated.

He was born March 13, 1940. He enjoyed fishing, coaching baseball and being competitive with his son.

He was preceded in death by parents, Clesten and Ila Savage Cravens; son, Thomas Douglas Cravens; brothers, Robert Cravens and Charles Cravens; sister, Clara Johnson and two infant sisters.

He is survived by wife, Patsy Cravens of Rickman; daughter, Patricia Cravens of Rickman; sons, Jamie Cravens and wife, Cassandra of Rickman and Bobby Cravens and wife, Elizabeth of Cookeville; grandchildren, Kyle Cravens, Levi Allen, Kaylee Bain, Wade Cravens, J.B. Bingham, Sarah Bingham and Abbigale Cravens; great-grandchildren, Lexi Allen and Tobi Allen and brother, Bennie Cravens and wife Sue of Anderson, Ind.

Pallbearers who served were Wade Cravens, Levi Allen, Curtis Hayes, John Jones and Richard Dillon.

Geneva Helen Taylor

Geneva Helen Taylor, 97, of the Dry Hollow Community passed away Aug. 1 at Heritage Pointe Senior Living. Funeral services will be held Aug. 5 at the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Overton County Memorial Gardens. Bro. Daniel Moore will officiate.

She was born near Blytheville, Ark. on Jan. 14, 1923. She was a Christian and a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker.  She loved her family, fishing, church, and gardening.  She also loved teaching children in Sunday School and being the “candy lady” at church.

She was preceded in death by parents, Mark K. Shelton and Dora Lucy Shelton; 14 brothers and sisters; husband, Dow R. Thompson and second husband, Wayne Taylor.

She is survived by daughters, Marilyn Thorne (Lanier) of Bartlett and Rebecca Thompson (Randall Boswell) of the Dry Hollow Community of Overton County; grandchildren, Keith Worsham (Shandy) of Norwich, Kans., Shea Worsham Bergfield (Lee) of Memphis, Rhonda Thorne of Memphis, Kay Thorne Conlee (Dwayne) of Bartlett, Mark Vaughn of Daytona Beach, Fla. and Chase Boswell (Rebecca) of the Dry Hollow Community of Overton County and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers to serve are Keith Worsham, Chase Boswell, Daniel Sells, James Smith, Randall Dial and W.J. Staggs.

Roger Dale Dancy

Roger Dale Dancy, 70, passed away July 30 from Livingston Regional Hospital. Memorial serviced will be held at a later date.

He was born June 14, 1950 in Jefferson, N.C. retired from Hutchinson FTS, Inc. in 2012. He enjoyed watching NASCAR races and spending time with his family and friends. He was a loving husband and father who will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by parents, Millard Dancy and Hester Cleary Dancy; sisters, Virgie Taylor and Mae Hash; brothers, Bill Dancy, Ray Dancy, Elbert Dancy, Roy Dancy and Sam Dancy.

He is survived by wife, Barbara Lea Dancy; daughters, Melissa Dancy Osborne (Eric) of Jefferson, N.C. and Lisa Dancy Dishman (Charles) of West Jefferson, N.C.; stepsons, Scott Marsh (Tammy) of Pisgah Forest, N.C. and Robert Marsh (Julie) of Travelers Rest, S.C.; four grandsons; four granddaughters; one great-grandson; brother, Robert Dancy of West Jefferson, N.C.; sisters, Linda Weaver (Earl) of Hudson, N.C. and Myrtle Shatley of West Jefferson, N.C.; mother and father-in-law, Gladys and Bill Miller of Livingston; brother-in-law, Dr. Gary Miller (Susan) of Woodstock, Ga.; several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Dave Roberts of Livingston.

Vickie Smith

Vickie Smith, 48, of Livingston passed away July 27 from Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Funeral services were held July 30 at the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Interment followed in the Edwards Family Cemetery.

She was born Sept. 11, 1971. She loved playing with her grandchildren, enjoyed going to the lake and fishing, and loved to dance around and make jokes.

She was preceded in death by parents, George Roy and Betty Ann Boles Edwards and daughter-in-law, Ashley Maynard.

She is survived by fiancé, John Melton of Livingston; daughter, Mercedes Greenwood and husband, Max of Algood; son, Ronnie King II of Monroe; granddaughters, Lilly Grace Greenwood and Arabella King; grandson, Bentley Cole Hendricks; sister, Ruby Garrett of Allons; brothers, Ricky Edwards and wife, Cynthia of Alpine, Junior Edwards and wife, Angela of Livingston and Curtis Edwards of Monroe; nephews, George, Josh, Wesley and Aden; nieces, Komie, Beth, Destiny, Tara, Hailey and Little Komie.

Pallbearers who served were Max Greenwood, Dalton Kirby, George Edwards, Brandon McFalls, Josh Garrett and Jarrett Suggs.

Concetta Ledbetter

Concetta G. Ledbetter, 65, of St. Claire Shores, Mich. passed away July 17. Funeral services were held Aug. 1 at Livingston Funeral Home. Interment followed in the Overton County Memorial Gardens. Bro. David Beaty officiated.

She loved her animals and was always working with rescue groups and finding home for them.

She was preceded in death by parents, Peter and Josephine Pellerito.

She is survived by husband, Charles Ledbetter; son,  Charles Jr.; granddaughter, Rachael; sisters, Josie (Kerry) and Fran (Michael) and her dogs and cats.

Earl “Bud”


Earl “Bud” Worley, 77, of Monroe passed away Aug. 1 from his residence. Funeral services were held Aug. 4 at the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home. Interment followed in the Red Hill Cemetery.

He was born in Overton County on Sept. 30, 1942. He loved his family and being around his grandchildren.  He enjoyed hunting, trading, farming and talking to other people.

He was preceded in death by parents, Will and Bonza Coleman Worley and daughter-in-law, Vickie Harvey Worley.

He is survived by wife, Joyce Martin Worley of Monroe; daughter, Michele Taqui and husband, Adam of Hendersonville; sons, Gregory Worley and wife, Tammy of Pleasant View, Martin Worley of Monroe and Roger Worley and wife, Kelli of Monroe; grandchildren, Katie, Erin, Laura, Tori, Levi and Livia and brother, Billy Worley and wife, Linda of Livingston.
