Town of Livingston and Overton County officials, along with local health professionals, met in a press conference last Wednesday at Livingston City Hall and gave updates concerning COVID-19 and how it will affect the community.
As many people in the community continue to neglect the severity of the virus and continue to compare numbers to flu infections, Health Department Director Andy Langford provided clarity on the difference between the flu and COVID-19.
“We know what the flu does. We have the flu every year and we know how to attack it, we know how it impacts our communities—we know how to work with that. We don’t know everything, and we’re finding out something new everyday (about COVID-19),” Langford said. “We don’t know how it’s going to impact someone who has it now, and how it will affect their lungs in 10-years. We don’t know the respiratory problems they’re going to have…There’s so many things we don’t know but that are sitting there, and we don’t want them to be dealing with health problems down the road.”
