County Says That It Will Not Mandate Public Mask Wearing

Overton County commissioners met in a Public Safety Meeting last Thursday and discussed grants for the Overton County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD).

The OCSD would be eligible to apply for grant funds made available through the state for COVID-19.

The department would be applying for funds up to $10,000 for law enforcement, $10,000 for the courts and $20,000 for the jail.

The grant would not require a match and would be made available for technology and equipment.

In other business, the committee voted to reduce the speed limit to 15 mph on Pine Ridge Lane and James Allen Lane.

In unrelated business, Overton County Executive Ben Danner explained to the committee that in conjunction with the other Upper Cumberland counties, he would not be mandating masks for Overton County following the Governor’s decision to leave it up to individual counties.
