Historical Society Has Been Busy

The Overton County Historical Society (OCHS) has been busy this past month along with making future plans for events in the Overton County area in keeping with their logo of: The Three P’s: “Preserving the Past, Protecting the Current, and Promoting Future History.”

On June 29 the OCHS and the Pickett County Historical and Genealogical Society (PCHGS) hosted the portrayal of John “Racoon” Smith, a pioneer preacher and resident of this area and the area bordering Kentucky. Mr. Harlan Ogle portrayed John “Racoon” Smith and did an excellent job. Those in attendance of about 40 enjoyed it and had a great time. The OCHS and PCHGS jointly want to thank Mr. Ogle for sharing this program with us and for all those that attended and supported this event.
