Closed For Memorial Day

The L.B.J. & C. Development Corporation Central Office will be closed May 27, 2019 in observance of Memorial Day.

All Solid Waste Convenience Centers will be closed Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day. They will reopen on Tuesday, May 28 at 8 a.m.

Decoration To Be Held

The Sylvester Robbins Cemetery in Monroe will have decoration on Sunday, May 26 at 2 p.m. All donations are appreciated for the upkeep of the cemetery.

Memorial Services To Be Held

Memorial services are being held at the Wirmingham Cemetery on Monday, May 27 at 10 a.m.

Finding Your Patriot Ancestors To Be Held

The Annual June Genealogy and History Event for 2019 will be June 1 at, 9a.m. until 2p.m. in the Millard Oakley Public Library Meeting Room. This is going to be a great day. Linda Moss Mines, who is the Hamilton County Tennessee Historian as well as a member of the NSDAR Chief John Ross Chapter of Hamilton County, will be our guest speaker. We will begin with a program at 10:00 a.m. “Finding Your Patriot Ancestor.” Lunch break will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. 12 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Shawn Gray, from Indiana, will present a program on “DNA – A New Outlook – Findings Through DNA Results.” Throughout the day several local and surrounding historical and genealogical societies and other organizations linked to genealogy and history will be setup to share their organization’s information in what they have and what they do. Come stay all day or just stop by.

Patriot Dedication

Service To Be Held

A dedication service honoring Henry Sells will be held Saturday, June 1 at 3 p.m. at the Sells Cemetery located on Cherokee Lane in the Free Communion Community of Overton County. The NSDAR Chapter Chief John Ross of Hamilton County TN, which is the National Society of Daughters of Revolution, will conduct the service. They will place an emblem at his marker, which will include an honor guard with cannon as well.

All descendants and other are invited to attend. Directions to the cemetery: turn right at Cherokee Lane just past Free Communion Church of Christ on Willow Grove Highway. Henry Sells 1760 to 1856 born in Pennsylvania; died in Overton County, Tennessee a little over 10 years after moving. Census records show he was in PA in 1790 and then an affidavit has him in Sullivan County in 1796 as well as on the 1800 to 1840 census also in Sullivan County Tennessee and in Overton County TN by 1850. He had purchased his land on Jan. 24, 1845 in Overton County from Thomas Eldridge whose land adjoined David Richardson’s and Nicholas Mullins’ land. Hope many descendants and visitors can attend this event.

Public Notice

The Overton County Commission will meet in regular session on Monday, June 24 at 5 p.m. at the Overton County Courthouse.

L.B.J. & C. To Meet

The L.B.J. & C. Development Corporation Board of Director’s will hold their bi-monthly meeting Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at the L.B.J.& C. Development Corporation, 1150 Chocolate Drive, Cookeville, Tennessee. The meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m.

Booher Cemetery Memorial Service and decoration to be held Monday, May 29 at 11 a.m., at the cemetery. Everyone Welcome!

Garbage Routes Temporarily Changed For Memorial Day

Garbage routes in the Town of Livingston will temporarily change in order for the City to observe Memorial Day. Trash will not be picked up Monday, May 27. Monday’s route will be picked up on Tuesday, May 28.
