Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Alice Lynch Sells, age 91, of Monroe were conducted at 3 p.m., Sunday, January 20, 2019 from the Bethsaida Christian Church. Rev. Craig Green officiated. Burial followed in the Bethsaida Cemetery. The family welcomed friends on Sunday from 12:30 until time of services at the Bethsaida Christian Church. Speck Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Alice passed from this life on Wednesday morning, January 16, 2019 at the Overton County Health and Rehab in Livingston, TN. She was born February 14, 1927 in Clifton, Tennessee to the late William & Ida Baugus Lynch. As a skilled artist, Alice loved to draw, sew and crochet. She was a faithful wife, a loving mother and a master gardener who created wonderful food from the vegetables she harvested. Her cooking was renowned in her family and once caused her son-in-law to remark that her Thanksgiving dinner was so good he almost ate the plate, too. She kept her apple-walnut cake recipe (“a little of this and a little of that”) a secret that now we’ll just have to guess. Also a skilled seamstress, she worked at several clothing factories throughout her life and made many of her children’s clothes as they grew up. She loved to laugh and could sometimes be coaxed into dancing. She was dearly loved by her family and friends.

Alice leaves her son, Garry Pugh of Murfreesboro, TN; daughters, Regina Pugh and husband Mike Carr of Milford, OH and Shirley Sells Price and husband Jerry of Monroe, TN; grandchildren, Joe Pugh, Ryan Sheffield, Jason Sheffield, and Julia Ellis; great-grandchildren, Darren Pugh, Zachary Pugh, Bodi Sheffield and Karson Ellis.

In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her first husband, Tom Pugh, and husband, John Sells; daughters, Jean Evelyn Pugh and Kathy Pugh Reynolds; and brother, Jimmie Rhone Lynch.

Pallbearers were Joe Pugh, Ryan Sheffield, Darren Pugh, Zachary Pugh, Mike Carr and Jerry Price.
