Aldermen Approve Junk Cars Ordinance

The Mayor and Board of Aldermen approved making several amendments to the city’s property maintenance ordinance that would allow the city to impound abandoned or inoperative vehicles after seven people voiced their opinion in clear opposition of the regulations in a public hearing last night.

Ten locals came before the board to share their opinions. Seven of those residents said the city is taking property that doesn’t belong to them, two others said something needs to be done because their property value on their homes is reducing because of their neighbors’ junked motor vehicles, and one requested that the ordinance be put on a ballot for the town’s residents to vote on the matter.
