Elva Jean Ayers

Elva Jean Ayers, 79 of Hilham, passed away on Aug. 22 at Signature Health Care in Putnam County. Funeral services were held on Aug. 25 at Anderson – Upper Cumberland Funeral Home in Gainesboro. Bro. Gordon Lee, Bro. Phillip Morgan and Bro. Howard Dailey officiated. Interment followed in the New Hope Cemetery in the New Hope community of Jackson County.

She was born in Overton County on Sept. 12, 1938. On Jan. 31, 1955, she was married to the late Elmer D. Ayers, who passed away Oct. 27, 2016. She was a homemaker and a member of the New Hope Community Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee Evins and Martha Evins; husband, Elmer D. Ayers; son, Terry Ayers; brother, James Evins; sister, Hassie Willard Griffin; and nephews, Tim Evins and Richard Griffin.

She is survived by sons, Steve (Sharon) Ayers and Mike (Tina) Ayers, all of Hilham; daughter in law, Debbie Ayers Farmer of Knoxville; grandchildren, Chris (Melinda) Ayers, Brad (Andrea) Ayers, Penny (Billy) Cummins, Mandy (Casey) White, and Brandon Ayers (Karla Ayers); great grandchildren, Mitchell Ayers, Samuel Ayers, Carson Walker, Colin Ayers, Cameron Ayers, Emma Grace Ayers, Corey White, Ashton Ayers, Tessarae Faith Cummins and Dalton Cummins; nephew, Stoney Evins; niece, Donna Burton; special niece, Judy Johnson; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends also survive.


Kenny Norris

Kenny Norris, 58 of Livingston, passed away on Aug. 27 at his home. Celebration of Life Services will be held on Sept. 4 at 6 p.m. from the Monroe Christian Church. Bro. Steven Barlow will officiate. Speck Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

He was born in Overton County on May 8, 1960. He was a 1978 graduate of Livingston Academy. He loved music and being with his cousin, Pam, and his dog, Bella.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tommy and Lorene Duty Norris; wife, Lisa Bunch Norris; and brothers, Bobby and Billy Norris.

He is survived by his cousin, Pamela Duty Bullington of North Port, Fla.; several other cousins, aunts and uncles; and caretakers, Mike and Amanda Presley.


Joshua Dale Garrett


Joshua Dale Garrett, 29 of Monroe, passed away in Pickett County on Aug. 28. Funeral services were held on Aug. 30 from the chapel of Hall Funeral Home of Livingston. Bro. Bruce Mullinex officiated. Interment followed in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Monroe.

He was born in Livingston on April 25, 1989. He worked as a welder for Carwile Construction.

He is survived by his parents, Dale and Shelia Garrett of Monroe, sister, Chaya Garrett Huckeby and husband, Robert of Hilham, niece, Abbigale Huckeby, and nephew, Austin Huckeby.

Pallbearers were Robert Holt, Matt Holt, Joey Garrett, Johnathan Bull, Dustin Harris and Josh Long.


Carvel Oren “Buddy” Cope, Jr.

Carvel Oren “Buddy” Cope, Jr., 57 of Livingston, passed away on Aug. 21 at his residence. Celebration of Life Services were held on Aug. 31 from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Rev. Craig Green officiated.

He was born in Overton County on Dec. 5, 1960. He was a 1979 graduate of Livingston Academy and a member of the Livingston First Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Los Angeles Lakers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carvel D. Cope, Sr. and Bobbye Jean Reed Cope.

He is survived by his sisters, Monica Eldridge and husband, Boone of Cookeville, and Karen Byrd of Fairfax Station, Va.; nieces, Dr. Amy Thompson, Mary Jeanes, Hannah Breymeier and Rachel Byrd; and nephew, Jordan Byrd.


Golda Blaylock



Golda Blaylock Hargis, 88 of the Hanging Limb Community, passed away on Aug. 30 at the Bethesda Health Care Center. Funeral services were held on Sept. 2 from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home. Rev. Wayne Blaylock and Rev. Don Richardson officiated. Interment followed in the Sand Springs Memorial Gardens.

She was born in Brotherton in July 26, 1930. She was a counselor with Dayton Daily News in Dayton, OH. She was a bookkeeper with Miami Maid Bakery, Sunshine Biscuit and Miami Valley News Agency. She was a member of North Dayton Baptist Church. She was an award-winning quilter winning Top In State Of Tennessee Award.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Emery Mathias and Nancy Lola Henry Blaylock; husband, Otis Hargis; granddaughter, Britney Cooper; sisters, Ollie Mae Swafford and Ethelene Lee; and infant brother, James Harold Blaylock.

She is survived by her children, Roger And Shirley Rockwell of Dayton, OH, Diane and Phil Hannaford of Mesa, Ariz., Brenda and Darrell Barnett of Dayton, OH, and Michael Hargis of the Hanging Limb Community; grandchildren, Leah (Jake) Dressel, Kyle (Rachel) Rockwell, Stephanie Wooten, Amy Bolton, Bradley Barnett, Justin Barnett, Kayla (Jacob) Ruf and Brett Barnett; great grandchildren, Abigail Wooten, Brianna Wooten, Jade Bolton, Rowan Neal, Cambrie Hager, Morgan Rockwell, Everett Dressel and Wyatt Rockwell; great great grandchildren, Brantley Moore; sisters, Delma and Jesse Turner Of Dayton, OH, Ruth Richardson of Baxter; brothers, Johnnie and Shirley Blaylock of Dayton, OH; Ralph Blaylock of Dayton, OH; and Jim and Janice Blaylock of Brotherton.
