Teachers Carrying Weapons Bill Is Progressing

A Tennessee Senate Bill has cleared the House Civil Justice Subcommittee, the bill’s first hurdle, which would allow teachers the option to carry concealed handguns after completing the required training.

The bill would expand an existing state law.

House Bill 2208 is sponsored in the Tennessee House of Representatives by Rep. David Byrd (R). Senate Bill 2563 sponsored in the Tennessee Senate by Senator Joey Hensley (R). The measure passed a House Civil Justice Subcommittee 5-2 on Feb. 28.
