Sheriff’s Dept. Increases Security Regarding Inmate Personal Property

An audit finding released Jan. 2 found $851 that belonged to an inmate had been stolen in 2015. The Overton County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD) implemented some changes immediately following the incident.

According to the recently released state audit findings, “On Sept. 17, 2015, an employee of the Sheriff’s Department discovered that cash totaling $851 was missing from an inmate’s property. The inmate was booked into the county jail on Sept. 15, 2015 and was expected to make bail, so the cash in his possession was placed in a property bag along with other personal items.”
