Richard Coell Smith, 68 of Hermitage Springs, passed away Feb. 29 at Monroe County Medical Center. Funeral services were held March 3 from the chapel of the Anderson & Son Funeral Home in Red Boiling Springs with Lance Reynolds officiating. Interment followed in the Richard Coell Smith Cemetery. Pallbearers included: Ranon Etheridge, Taylor Shipley, Skylar Shipley, Konner Smith, Daniel Davis and Ben Burton. Honorary pallbearers included: Kenny Smith II, Luke Smith and Brylan Burton. He was born Nov. 26, 1947 in Clay County. He was a retired tire builder for Pirelli Armstrong Tire Corp., a lifelong carpenter, employee with Honest Abe with 12 years of service and a member of the Hermitage Springs Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, Domer and Madge Anderson Smith; brother, Lex Smith. Surviving relatives include his wife of nearly 50 years, Shelia Clark of Hermitage Springs; daughters and son in law, Kristy Etheridge of Hermitage Springs, Tara and Dr. Travis Shipley of Hixon; son and daughter in law, Kenny and Haley Smith of Hermitage Springs; sisters and brothers in law, Arleen and A.G. Cross of Union Hill, Nyoka and John Wray of Sparta; Wonnie and Buddy Davis of the Leonard Community, Suzy Evans of RBS; brothers and sister in law, Tim and Linda Smith of Moss, Mark Smith of RBS; 11 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Anderson & Son Funeral Home of Red Boiling Springs was in charge of arrangements.
