Luke Hollaway, 92, passed away Jan. 14 at Cumberland River Hospital in Celina. Funeral services were held Jan. 21 at Anderson-Upper Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Matthew Stafford and Bro. David Sisco officiating. Interment followed at John L. Clark Memorial Cemetery. Luke Hollaway was born Dec. 23, 1922 in Jackson County. He was a farmer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey Hollaway and Rosie D. Caruthers Hollaway; wife, Molene Hollaway; son and daughter-in-law, Buddy and Donna Hollaway; son-in-law, Charles E. Jones; grandson, Chris Hollaway; great grandchild, J.E. Pippin; and brother, Harold Dean Hollaway. Surviving relatives include son, Jr. (Dale) Hollaway, of Whitleyville; daughter, Rosa Jones Gore, of Whitleyville; grandchildren, Tammy (Tim) Stafford and Danny Ray (Teresa) Jones, all of Whitleyville, Carol Ann (Mike) Carr and Linda Sue (Greg) Pippin, all of Baxter; and Lisa Braddon, of Sparta; and great grandchildren, Heather, Eric and Amber Stafford, Bethany and Alexis Jones, Lacey Pippin and Justin Carr.

James “Puggy” Strong, 80, passed away Jan. 14 at Mabry Health Care and Rehab. Funeral services were held Jan. 16 from the Chapel of the Hall Funeral Home in Celina. Interment followed at Grover Rich Cemetery with Bro. David Threet officiating. James “Puggy” Strong was born May 4, 1934 in Clay County. He was a contractor and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Maxie Denton Strong; daughter, Freda King; and grandchildren, Jason Cunningham and Natalie Strong. Surviving relatives include his wife, Martha Ann Strong; sons, James Ronald (Cindy) Strong, Donald (Patsy) Strong and Ricky E. (Connie) Strong; grandchildren, Kevin Strong, Michael Strong, Nathan Strong, T.J. McAlpin, Wesley Strong, Atha Stinson, Brock Strong, Olivia Strong, Jeff Cunningham, Andy King and Larissa King; eight great grandchildren; and special friend, Samuel L. Goney.

Roma Laughter Welch, 98, passed away Jan. 17 at Mabry Health Care Center in Gainesboro. Funeral services were held Jan. 24 at Anderson-Upper Cumberland Funeral Home with Rev. Kelly Stockton officiating. Interment followed at Welch Cemetery. Roma Laughter Welch was born June 27, 1916 in Tom, Oklahoma. She was a homemaker and a member of the Gainesboro First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Welch; parents, William Hariam Spillman and Nettie Lenora Edwards Spillman; father of her children, John Pershing Laughter Sr.; sons, John Pershing Laughter Jr., Jessie William Laughter, George Welch and James Welch; grandson, John Pershing Laughter III; one brother; and six sisters. Surviving relatives include son, Jackie Lee Laughter, of Gainesboro; daughters, Shirley Ann Webb, of Atwater, Calif., Betty Hopkins, of Cookeville and Mattie Spurlock, of California; brothers, Walter Edward Spillman, of Denison, Texas and John Howard Spillman, of Pottsboro, Texas; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
