School Board Meeting
The Overton County Board of Education will meet in regular session on Dec. 11. An open door work session will begin a 6 p.m. to be immediately followed by a board meeting.
County Commission Meeting
The Overton County Commission will meet in regular session at 6 p.m., Dec. 10 at the Overton County Courthouse.
Blood Drive
The Eye Centers of Tennessee in Livingston is sponsoring an American Red Cross Blood Drive between noon and 6 p.m., Dec. 5 at the Livingston-Overton County Chamber of Commerce. Donation appointments can be made by calling Jean Ann Mayberry at 797-7674, going online at RedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-73-2767.
Overton County Pre-K Enrollment
Schools will begin taking pre-k program enrollment applications for the 2013-14 school year beginning at 7 a.m., Jan. 3. Parents may pick up packets at any county school. Students will be placed onto each selected school’s waiting list once forms are returned.
The pre-k program is for 4-year-olds who will turn 4 by Sept. 30, 2013. The program gives first priority to at-risk students, therefore the 20 spaces per school for the program will be given first to students who qualify for free and reduced lunches. Remaining spaces will then be given to non-qualifying students remaining on the waiting list.
Commodities Distribution
The Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency will have a commodities distribution from 9 a.m. until 11 p.m., Dec. 11 at First Baptist Church, 708 E. Main St., Livingston. Everyone must present a valid UCHRA commodity card in order to receive commodities.
Shooting Match
The Monroe Volunteer Fire Department holds shooting matches every Saturday at noon. Prizes are bulk meats.
Christmas Dinner
Brown’s Chapel Community Center in Alpine will be holding a Christmas dinner from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 9. The menu will include turkey and dressing, chicken livers, ham, chicken, vegetables and other items. Proceeds go toward the center.
Need Your GED Or High School Diploma?
The Overton County Adult Education office offers a variety of services and programs to help adults achieve their educational goals. All programs and services are free of charge. Unemployed individuals may qualify to take the GED test free of charge. There are currently two locations, Livingston and Hanging Limb. Interested persons can contact the Adult Education Office at 823-7761.

Adult relative support group meetings are held from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. every third Tuesday at the First Christian Church, 320 Oakley St., Livingston. For information on assistance and support, contact Melissa Allison at the Upper Cumberland Developments District toll free at 1-877-275-8233. For housing assistance while caring for a relative child, contact Myra Walker at 432-4141.
Parenting Class
Parent-Child Connection is offering a series of parenting classes. PCC is at no charge and sessions are held from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays. The final installment “Make Up Session” for the current series is scheduled Dec. 12. For more information, contact 823-6432 or 1-800-635-5199.
