On Monday, Feb. 22 the Wildcats played the Upperman Bees in the championship game of the District Tournament. The Wildcats record was 24-6 overall and 11-0 in District 8 AA. The Bees record was 17-10 overall and 8-3 in District 8 AA.
The Wildcats went on an 8-0 run to start the game then the Bees hit a foul shot and the Wildcats went on another run. The score at the end of the quarter was 17-10 in favor of the Wildcats. With under six minutes in the half, T.J. Smith hit the first point of the second quarter. The score at halftime was 25-23 in favor of the Bees. Brad Jackson hit the first bucket of the third quarter to tie the score at 25. During the third quarter, the Wildcats held the Bees scoreless. The score at the end of the quarter was 39-25 in favor of the Wildcats. The Bees started the fourth quarter with an 8-0 run followed by a 6-0 run by the Wildcats. The final score was 51-35 in favor of the Wildcats.
The scorers for the game were T.J. Smith with 14; Jake Huitt with 13; Brad Jackson with 10; Mason Ramsey with four; Kailen Melton and Kendall Melton with three; and Logan Ramsey and Brock McCoin with two each.
Congratulations to Jake Huitt; Mason Ramsey; T.J. Smith; and Brad Jackson, MVP, for making the All Tournament team.
On Saturday, Feb. 27 the Wildcats hosted the Bledsoe Co. Warriors in the first round of the Region 4 AA tournament. The Wildcats record was 25-6 overall and 12-0 in District 8 AA. The Warriors record was 11-13 overall and 2-6 in District 7 AA.
The Wildcats went on a 7-0 run to start the game and then the Warriors hit a three, but the Wildcats came right back and went on a 9-0 run. The score at the end of the first quarter was 19-5 in favor of the Wildcats. The Warriors hit a three to start the scoring in the second quarter. T.J. Smith responded with a three followed by a bucket. During the quarter the Wildcats hit six three-pointers. The score at halftime was 45-22 in favor of the Wildcats. T.J. Smith scored the first bucket of the third quarter. The Wildcats outscored the Warriors 19-9 in the third quarter. The score going into the last quarter was 64-31 in favor of the Wildcats. The Warriors hit the first bucket of the fourth quarter followed by a three from Adam Wilson. During the fourth quarter all of the Wildcat players seen action. The final score was 72-45 in favor of the Wildcats. During the game the Wildcats hit 15 three-pointers.
The scorers for the game were T.J. Smith with 21; Brad Jackson with 10; Mason Ramsey with nine; Kailen Melton with eight; Jake Huitt with six; Adam Wilson with five; Kendall Melton, Colby Reeder and Hayden Hill with three each; and Logan Ramsey and Heath Thompson with two each.
The Wildcats play Tuesday, March 2 against Grundy Co. in the second round of the Region 4 AA Tournament at White Co. The winner of that game will play on Thursday, Mar. 4 in the championship game at 7 p.m. at White Co.
Lady Wildcats Down Lady Chargers Of Chattanooga Christian
We would like to say congratulations to Mackenzie Sells and Shelby Taylor on making the All Tournament team for the District.
On Friday, Feb. 26, the Lady Wildcats traveled to Chattanooga Christian to play the Lady Chargers in the first round of the Region 4 AA Tournament. The Lady Wildcats’ record was 24-8 overall and 8-3 in District 8 AA. The Lady Chargers record was 21-6 overall and 7-0 in District 7 AA.
Abby Miller hit a three-pointer to start the game followed by a bucket by the Lady Chargers. Later in the quarter the Lady Chargers hit a three-pointer to take lead. Shelby Taylor hit a bucket and a foul shot and tied the score 10, then she hit a three to give the Lady Wildcats the lead. The score at the end of the first quarter was 14-13 in favor of the Lady Chargers. The score at halftime was 29-26 in favor of the Lady Wildcats.
During the beginning of the third quarter the scoring went back and forth. The Lady Wildcats went on a 14-0 run to end the third quarter. The score at the end of the third quarter was 48-33 in favor of the Lady Wildcats. To start the fourth quarter the Lady Chargers went on a 7-0 run then the Lady Wildcats went on a 9-0 run. During the fourth quarter things got worse for the Lady Chargers as one of their players fouled out. The final score was 62-50 in favor of the Wildcats.
The scorers for the game were Mackenzie Sells with 25; Shelby Taylor with 15; Abby Miller with 10; Mallory Mahaney and Heather Cravens with three; and Samantha Maya, Amber Welch and Tori Stocking with two each.
The Lady Wildcats played Monday, Mar. 1 against Upperman in the second round of the Region 4 AA Tournament. The score was not available at press time. The winner of that game will play Wednesday, Mar. 3 in the championship game at 7 p.m. at White Co.
