“Welcome to Medicare” Class Scheduled
Are you turning 65 soon and confused about Medicare benefits and choices?  The State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) is hosting classes for those entering the confusing world of Medicare on Thursday, April 10 at 10 a.m. and Saturday, April 26 at 10:30 a.m. at the Putnam County Library in Cookeville. The class will consist of training on Parts A, B, C & D, as well as Medigap (supplement) policies and ways to prevent Medicare fraud.  SHIP is a federally funded program administered locally at the Upper Cumberland Area Agency on Aging & Disability and provides free and objective counseling to all Medicare beneficiaries and their caregivers.
To enroll in the class, please call 1-877-801-0044.  The class is free but seating will be limited.  All beneficiaries welcome, including those under age 65 with disabilities.

County Commission Scheduled To Hold Meeting April 7
The Overton County Commission will meet in regular session Monday, April 7 at 6 p.m. at the Overton County Courthouse.

School Nutrition Program Available During Summer
The Overton County School Nutrition Program is able to provide free food for Vacation Bible Schools, camps or any other student program this summer. Any child, age 18 or younger may participate in this. Please call Melissa Savage at 823-1287 to sign up or for more information.

UCHRA Commodity Distribution To Be Held
The Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency (UCHRA) will hold a commodities distribution for Overton County on Tuesday April 1, from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. at the Hanging Limb Fire Department, Hanging Limb. Everyone must present a valid UCHRA commodity card in order to receive commodities. To sign up or reprint lost commodities cards contact your local UCHRA office.

The Stephens Center Holds Parenting Classes
The Stephens Center is hosting parenting classes on Wednesday mornings from 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. and again on Thursday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Wednesday, April 2 class is titled, “Personal Power.” The Thursday evening, April 3 class is titled, “Nurturing As A Lifestyle.” Sessions are held at The Exchange Club/Stephens Center located at 616 N. Church St., Livingston. Certificates will be awarded to parents attending eight sessions within this series. The classes are free.

Daughters Of Confederacy Scheduled To Meet April 2

Blue Ribbon Child Abuse Prevention Ceremony To Be Held
The Blue Ribbon Child Abuse Prevention Memorial Ceremony will be held Thursday, April 10 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Livingston Court House Square.

Countywide Canned Food Drive To Be Held
The Area on Aging and Disability (AAAD) from the Upper Cumberland Development District is in the process of holding a canned food drive during March to support the aging population in this community. All food collected, according to the agency, will be distributed to needy Overton County seniors in April.
Tennessee ranks second in the nation for senior hunger. The AAAD is making an effort to help alleviate part of these needs in Overton County with this drive. The donation boxes are located at Save-A-Lot, E. Main St. and also at Jerry’s IGA, 800 Overton Plaza. The food drive will last through March 27. VFW Post 5062 To Hold Meeting
Veterans of Foreign War (V.F.W) Post 5062 will hold it monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the VFW building, 103 W. Henson St. Meetings are held the second Thursday of each month.

Alpine Fire Dept. To Hold Fundraiser Supper April 5
Alpine Volunteer Fire Department will hold a fish and chicken supper from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, April 5. Proceeds will benefit the fire department.

Rabies Clinics Scheduled Countywide
The 2014 Rabies Clinic schedule has now been released. The cost for pet vaccination is $8 each. On Wednesday, March 26 a rabies vaccination clinic will be set up from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at the Overton County Health Department.
On Thursday, March 27 clinics will be set up at the following times and locations; 8:30 a.m. – 9 a.m. – Old Alpine Gym, Alpine; 9:45 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. – Moles Market, Hanging Limb; 11:30 a.m. – 12 p.m., noon – Hardy’s Chapel Community Center, Hardy’s Chapel; 12:15 p.m. – 12:45 – Hilham General Store, Hilham; 2 p.m. – 2:30 – Allons Market, Allons; and 2:45 p.m. – 3:15 p.m. – Triple D. Grocery, Independence. On Saturday, March 29 a clinic will be set up at VCA Ragland and Riley Animal Hospital in Rickman.

Livingston Exchange Club Home And Garden Expo Scheduled For April 4-6
The Livingston Exchange Club Home and Garden Expo will be held April 4- 6 at the Overton County Fairgrounds. On Friday, April 4, the doors will open from noon until 6 p.m. On Saturday, April 5, doors will open at 9 a.m. and close at 6 p.m. and on Sunday, April 6, hours will be from noon until 3 p.m.
The event is expected to feature numerous workshops and demonstrations as well as many indoor exhibits. There is a cost associated with the event. For more information, please call Robbie Melton at (931) 445-5524.

Hardys Chapel Volunteer Fire Dept. To Host BBQ Fundraiser
Hardy’s Chapel Volunteer Fire Department will host a fundraiser barbecue dinner from 2 p.m. – 6 p.m., Tuesday, April 5. Proceeds will benefit the fire department.

Girl Scouts To Hold Spring Registration
Girl Scouts will be holding spring registration from 10 a.m. until noon at Millard Oakley Public Library on Saturday, April 5 for both Overton and Pickett Counties. There is a fee associated with registration. For more information, call Amy Lee at (931) 881-6717.

Fairgrounds Volunteer Fire Department Receives Donation

L.B.J.&C. Board Of Directors To Meet April 8
The L.B.J.&C. Development Corporation Board of Directors will hold its bi-monthly meeting at 6 p.m., Tuesday, April 8 at the L.B.J.&C. Development Corporation, 1150 Chocolate Drive, Cookeville.

Millard Oakley Library Events Announced
The director at Millard Oakley Public Library has announced the latest round of events. On Thursday, March 27, story time for preschoolers will be held at 10:15 a.m.; Monday, March 31 – computer class, “Basic Use Of The Internet” will be held beginning at 4 p.m.; Monday, March 31 – computer class, “Excel Basics” will be held at 5:30 p.m.; Tuesday, April 1 – “After School Stories” will be held at 3 p.m.; Tuesday, April 1 at 11 a.m., a book club meeting will be held;  and on Monday, April 7 from 3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m., TAB - the Teen Group will meet.

Livingston AA Group To Meet
The Livingston chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous meets on Monday nights at 8 p.m. for open discussion; Wednesday at 7 p.m. for a study group; Thursday at 8 p.m. for open discussion; and on Sunday  nights at 7 p.m. for another study group.The  meetings are held at 317 University St., Room 161. All are welcome.
