Reportedly a meth lab with multiple components and mixed chemicals were recovered from the residence. Due to the hazardous nature of meth labs, meth certified officers with the police department and sheriff’s department had to use chemical protective suits for the processing and clean up of the evidence recovered.
Officers participating in the raid included from the Overton County Sheriff’s Department, Det. Brian Franklin, Det. Michael Tharp, Sgt. John Garrett, Deputy Steve Hritz and from the Livingston Police Department, Officer Brandon Walker and Officer Ray Smith.
The case will be presented to the Overton County Grand Jury at a later date.

Meth Found At Convenience Store
Last Tuesday the Overton County Sheriff’s Department received a tip from Detective Rand Roland with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department regarding a meth lab. The meth lab was believed to be in a blue Chevy S-10 which was sitting at the Marathon Station in Rickman. Deputy John Mackie and Detective Roland responded to the location. The vehicle was located and the owner/driver of the vehicle gave deputies consent to search, and a methamphetamine lab was discovered. Sgt. Robert Garrett, Deputy Derek Sidwell, Investigator Michael Tharp and Deputy Bruce Cantrell were called to the scene for assistance.
Lowell Ambs and Eric Jones were arrested and brought to the Overton County Justice Center. Because of this search, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department was able to solve some Aggravated Burglary cases in their county. “By working together we were able to close down a meth lab and recover stolen property. We appreciate the following agencies for their assistance: Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, U.S. Marshal Jeff Phann, Hazmet and the Methamphetamine task Force,” Sheriff WB Melton stated.
Meth Lab On Earnest Looper Road
On Aug. 12 Deputy Steve Hritz went to 253 Earnest Looper Road to check if a registered sex offender was being in compliance with state laws regarding residents. During the visit Deputy Hritz reportedly could smell an odor that was common with the manufacture of methamphatmine.
Investigator Brian Franklin and U.S. Marshal John Mackie arrived at the residence, and members of the Overton County Sheriff’s Department were given consent to search the property and the residents. During the search a meth lab was found that was in production. The Meth Task Force response truck was called to the scene, along with Eagle Hazmat to dispose of the lab.
Charges on the two people will be taken to the grand jury. Both Deputy Steve Hritz and Brian Franklin are members of the Meth Task Force.
