A brief power outage that occurred last Tuesday morning around 7:15 a.m. left about half the county without electricity.
The outage occurred after the Upper Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation (UCEMC) substation for Livingston failed, said UCEMC Manager Jimmy Johnson, and it lasted less than 30 minutes, affecting Livingston and county residents and businesses.
Shortly after the outage occurred, a member of the Livingston Fire Department told the Livingston Enterprise a “loud pop” was heard coming from the direction of the substation.
As of Friday, April 26, Johnson said the Livingston UCEMC office did not know the reason for the outage, but stated the event was related to the Tennessee Valley Authority.
Tennessee Valley Authority’s Scott Brooks, public relations, said Friday, “TVA is still looking into exactly what caused it (the outage), but there appears there was an interruption in our equipment, possibly wildlife.”
