Extra Court Officer Is Proposed

A heavy caseload has prompted the Overton County Sheriff’s Department to ask that the county look into the possibility of adding a new court officer to the department next year.

“We’ve got one court officer and he does double duty as court officer and evidence tech,” Chief Deputy Tim Poore told the county’s Safety Committee last week. “We’re having, sometimes, three courts a day. (And) if you’ve seen our evidence, you would understand that … it’s packed full. We’re trying to get in there and get it cleaned out as much as we can, but it comes in about as quick as we can get rid of it.”
